The HEART of BICOL, or commonly known as Naga City,  is located on the south-eastern part of Luzon, this city is 377 kilometers from Philippine’s capital, Manila. This has also been the center of Bicol Region’s educational, economical, religious and commercial core. In here, big establishments in the said region are situated. Its stable financial status is also one of the place’s assets.

This city was already civilized when first discovered by Juan de Salcedo in 1573. The place got its name from the word “Narra” due to its abundance in narra trees which made its distinction to the Spaniard conquistadors. Missionary foundations were put up five years after the foundation of Naga City which was principally led by Fray Pablo de Jesus and Fray Bartolome Ruiz.

Naga was then developed to a Spanish City because of the joint efforts of the government and Captain Pedro de Chavez, the commander of the garrison which took charge after Salcedo. The said place was converted with the name Ciudad de Caceres in honor of Don Francisco de Sande, the present governor of the province during that time and came from the City of Caceres in Spain. Ciudad de Caceres was then one of the five major cities in the whole country.

During the Spanish era, Bicolanos and Naguenos took its part to the revolution led by the Katipuneros to attain freedom. Naga City and its people then hugged the idealism of liberty by sacrificing their lives to acquire it. And, one of these heroes were the Fifteen Martyrs of Bicol.

The city’s colorful history and heroic deeds of its citizens have contributed much to its progress.
